RESOLUTION
TO SUPPORT THE POLITICAL STRUGGLE OF ex RVN AIRFORCE PILOT LY TONG

In order to support the political struggle for the righteous cause of Vietnamese Emigres all over the world, former Republic of Vietnam (hereinafter RVN)’s Air Force Pilot Ly Tong, has made many positive contributions in order to hasten the creation of a Democratic and Free Vietnam.

Whereas, Ly Tong has been publicly acknowledged as a courageous pilot of the RVN Air Force. Ly Tong had flown many daredevil missions against Vietnam Communist (hereinafter VC) troops in April 1975 in order to prevent them from invading the RVN until his A-37 Dragon Fly Jet Fighter was shot down by the VC. Ly Tong was imprisoned in a harsh, re-education, camp for 5 years by the VC. However, Ly Tong refused to bend even he was cruelly treated by the VC. Ly Tong had shown exemplary courage by being able to successfully evade from Communist imprisonment.

Whereas, after his escape, Ly Tong embarked on a 17-month trek through mountains and jungles across 5 Southeast Asian nations, including Communist-run Laos and Cambodia, before making it to Singapore, barefooted and suffering from malaria

Whereas, Ly Tong was heralded by former President Ronald Reagan and the U.S. Congress for his exemplary courage for his struggle for Freedom and Democracy for Vietnam.

Whereas, Ly Tong has been a worthy American citizen who has been striving to improve himself in order to positively contribute to this nation. Ly Tong has earned a Master’s Degree in Political Science from the University of Louisiana at New Orleans.

Whereas, in order to raise awareness of the human rights violation by Communist Vietnam, Ly Tong never missed an occasion to speak out, and expose Vietnamese Communist atrocities, violations of Human Rights and Religious Freedom.

WHEREFORE, THE VIETNAMESE COMMUNITY OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA HAS
ADOPTED THE FOLLOWING RESOLUTION:

1. Unyieldingly supports Ly Tong’s heroic struggle for a genuinely Democratic and Free Vietnam.

2. Views Ly Tong’s struggle for Democracy and Freedom as a purely political enterprise in the hope of toppling the Vietnam Communist Regime.

3. Expresses its deep gratefulness and appreciation to distinguished officials from Federal, State, and Counties, as well as political, civic, media organizations, who have exerted their efforts in helping hero Ly Tong during his imprisonment.

4. Respectfully urged his Majesty the King of Thailand, the Thai Government, and the Thai Judiciary System to exercise favorable discretion to prevent Ly Tong from being extradited to Communist Vietnam. Especially, it is most respectfully suggested that the Thai Government and the Thai Judiciary System should not act in such a way to rekindle the indelible sufferings and killings of thousands of our Vietnamese compatriots, especially women, who were at the mercy of Thai sea pirates during their saga to seek freedom from 1975 to 1990, and who received little or no assistance from the Thai authorities during that time.

Executed at Little Saigon on August 25, 2006

On behalf of the Vietnamese Community of Southern California

Signed

Dr. Nguyen Xuan Vinh, M.D.
